Exercise: Fitting the frame of the subject
For this exercise we took something clear in appearance and compact in shape with the idea of experimenting with how much space it takes up in the frame of the viewfinder.
The first image is taken showing the subject, a vintage tractor, without much consideration to composition, which will be used as a baseline for the others to low.
The conventional image shows the subject as it is and portrays little else in regards to its surroundings or purpose.
The second image is taken while the camera is moved close into the subject, with the subject fitting the frame as tightly as possible right up to the edges but not beyond.
On the third version the framing should be close in, and the framing such, that you cannot see the edges of the subject, and just a part of it photographed.
The forth photograph is brought back from the subject and stresses the surroundings in which we find it.
