Project: Getting to Know Your Camera

  Exercise: A sequence of composition

I decided to take a sequence of photographs to record one of the East KiIlbride's Remembrance Day Services.  It was a cold wet day which made it difficult to get an unobstructed view of the service as people were, understandably not wishing to stand on the surrounding wet grass and seeking the solid ground of the memorial tarmac causing everyone to cram onto the limited space.

The first set of images were taken as the service was about to finish when I was able to take some images through the crowd.  None of these images were used later.

The second set of images captured the representatives of the armed forces leaving the memorial and marching off. Two images here were considered for the final cut. The elderly man in the first image of the second row and the soldier in the last image.

The next set of images were taken of the Royal Air Force contingent marching from the memorial.  None of these images were used later.

The forth set of images were taken as people looked at the wreaths at the memorial.  When processing the images I noticed the trumpet carried by the male in the last three images when cropped in close gave a sombre feeling to me, with the wreaths in the background and the trumpet indicative of the last post.

The four images below were singled out as portraying the feeling of the day, particularly when it is all about the fallen in battle and the youth lost in such campaigns, particularly the youth in the third image who looks very young.

The final image I decided on was the trumpet with the wreaths in the background.  I feel that this gives a feeling of the time with the trumpet symbolising the "last post" and the wreaths, the fallen.
