Project: Focal lengths

Exercise: Focal lengths and different viewpoints

I climbed into the field at the rear of the James Hamilton Heritage Park to get a view of Mains Castle which has rolling fields extending from it giving me an unobstructed view for up to about a mile.

I used a Canon 5D Mk II camera, tripod and the Canon 70mm/200mm, with the intention of shooting one image at 70mm and the other at 200mm.

The first image, taken at a focal length 70mm demonstrates the effect of converging lines with the corner of the walls leaning in at the top of the building.

The second image looks more symmetrical and, in my opinion,  portrays the building as it looks.
It is also a much cleaner image with less distractions, the trees appear more proportionate to the building and gives some distance between them.
